The weather has been glorious these past few days in the Borrowdale Valley. The last spell of good weather was in June – the last time a blog was posted. The colours all around us are varied and vibrant, from the lush green fields in the valley to the deep purple heather on the sides of the Catbells fells. And there are the first signs of changing colour on the leaves of the trees in the hotel gardens. The night skies also have been stunning with the full, and then waning, moon casting brilliant white light over Maiden Moor and down across the rarely still waters of Derwentwater. Others have noticed these special conditions particularly the baby buzzard soaring beyond King’s How during the day and an owl in the woods at dusk and during the night.
