November

Today has been an exceptional autumn day in Borrowdale with clear, sunny skies. There are a variety of tree leaf and bracken colours in the hotel gardens and on the fells across Derwentwater towards Catbells. The lake is smooth, so the majestic mountain peaks are reflected on its surface. The river Derwent flows past nearby on its way from its source at Sprinkling Tarn to the sea at Workington. The National Trust has launched a project to improve the health of the river, home to the UK’s rarest freshwater fish, the vendace, as well as Atlantic salmon and other species. Tonight we are expecting a very starry night.
