Borrowdale Valley
Borrowdale Valley starts in the Central Lake District and runs northwards carrying the River Derwent into Derwent Water. Keswick
Keswick is a traditional English market town situated at the top of Derwent Water. It is a very energetic town with lots of events on offer throughout the year to enjoy. Outdoor Activities In The Lake District
The Lake District is a hub for outdoor activities and offers some great outdoor pursuits to be enjoyed amid the spectacular scenery. Thousands of people descend upon the Lake District annually to take part in some of the best hill walking in the UK. However there are many more outdoor activities on offer.
Water based sports such as sailing, kayaking and canoeing are widely available. Or if you want to use less energy why not rent a boat or jump on one of the many cruise boats around the waters. Enjoy Keswick Launch Company's hop on hop off cruises around Derwent Water, one stop just a stroll away from the Hotel.
On wheels enjoy some fantastic mountain biking, which can take you all over the Lake District. For the more adventurous bikers the Whinlatter Bike Trails just outside Keswick is the home to the longest purpose-built mountain bike trails in the Lake District. There are two trails on offer, the Altura Trail, a Red grade 19km Trail and the Quercus Trail, a blue grade 7.5km trail. These tracks offer great mountain biking through the forest with tracks graded from beginner to expert, short distance to long distance.
Also enjoy Quad biking and 4x4 trips, which can take you high up the hills to enjoy some of the magnificent scenery on offer without the sweat!
On ropes you can really push yourself to the limit with abseiling down a cliff face or rock climbing. This will really show you a different side to the Lake District and give you a deserved sense of achievement. Various activity centres offer instruction or private instructors are available. At the end of Borrowdale Valley lies Honister Pass and its route over to Buttermere and Lorton. Here you can enjoy the Honister's Via Ferrata, an award winning adventure climbing system that uses permanently fixed cable up the rock face of the old miners' route. Honister's Via Ferrata (Voted Best Tourism Experience 2011) can give you a sensation of being exposed on a rock face and the sense of freedom from ascending into spaces where only eagles can fly!
For the more lighthearted enjoy the local Go Ape in Keswick, which is a high rope adventure park for children and adults. This tree top trail offers many different challenges which are all great fun and can help you push yourself to the limit. Take to the trees and experience an exhilarating course of rope bridges, Tarzan swings and zip slides up to 40 feet off the ground.
The Lake District boasts some remarkable golf courses with stunning views along the way. Keen golfers can enjoy some eight Golf Courses within a one hour drive of Keswick. Some golf courses offer 9 hole courses whilst others feature the more challenging 18 hole courses for the more competitive player.
