March

30 March

As ever, this seems to be a month with more than the usual dramatic changes. There was heavy snow fall this year in the Borrowdale Valley and the water levels Derwentwater were very high. But, as the month ends, there are so many signs now of spring. Most notably, the birdsong has really ratcheted up with all the regular visitors working hard from 5.30 am through to darkness. The woodpeckers are particularly busy alongside the variety of tits, and an inquisitive robin. The mallards, absent for a couple of months, have taken a renewed interest in the pond. Apart from the daffodils, there isn’t yet much colour on the hotel gardens but this will change soon enough as temperature rises.
